|  CUSD Budget:
The CUSD Board is continuing to attempt to identify $25.1 million in cuts from the 2010/2011 budget. The 1st interim report was sent to OCDE on December 15 with a “qualified” budget (rather than a “positive” budget), since CUSD was not able to identify a total of $25 million in cuts.

CUSD Special Board Meeting
The CUSD Board of Trustees called a special meeting on Saturday October 24. They announced that they were going to retain counsel to represent CUSD in connection with the decision on September 30 of the OC Committee on School District Organization. CUSD is seeking a change in the date of the election to potentially change the way we vote for trustees from June 2010 to November 2010.

Orange County Committee on School District Organization Hearing
• A petition to change the way CUSD voters elect trustees was submitted to the county with the requisite number of qualified signatures. Therefore, the Orange County Committee held a public hearing on September 30 in the CUSD Board room to consider the petition.
Results of the Orange County Committee Hearing
• The OC Committee approved the petition and set an election date for June 8, 2010. Since the CUSD Board of Trustees voted earlier in the month not to pursue a waiver request, the election could cost $400,000 - $500,000 plus demographer fees.
CUCPTSA Position
• Now that this issue has become a ballot measure, a committee will be formed to determine if PTA can take a position on the issue, and if so, to determine a position.

| Niguel Hills is helping to protect our environment by recycling all water bottles disposed of on our school property during the day. We also are implementing Water Bottle Wednesday which gives families an opportu nity to save your bottles from home that would normally be put in the trash, and instead bring them to school each and every Wednesday morning.

| Parents who volunteer in their child's class now have until December 1, 2008 to complete the district's new Volunteer Application packet. After that date, only parents who have completed the process will be allowed to work with students. You may, however, begin the volunteer process at any time. Volunteer Application Packets are available in the school office and may be returned to Donna Mora. You will be notified when your application has been accepted and you will also be issued an ID card.
